Buying stationery in Welkom
Welkom was built as the centre of the Free State goldfields, and mines, mine contractors and engineering workshops still order logbooks, labels, permit forms, toner and archive storage, alongside offices of the Matjhabeng municipality and Lejweleputswa district. Central University of Technology's Welkom campus and Goldfields TVET College add student demand, and schools in Thabong and the town create a big January stationery season. Grain farms in the surrounding district need invoice books and dispatch stationery at harvest. Stock commonly comes about 160 km from Bloemfontein or from Johannesburg, with two working days a realistic delivery time for most orders.
Typical art supplies requests in the area come from:
- Factories and warehouses: workshops and sign makers buying paint markers, brushes and modelling materials
- Schools: poster paint, brushes, crayons and craft materials ordered for the year's art classes
- Government and municipalities: community arts centres and libraries stocking paint and craft supplies for workshops
- Offices and small businesses: creative agencies and design studios buying markers, sketch pads and presentation boards
- Universities and colleges: fine art and design students' canvases, artist paint and drawing materials for studios
- Shops and resellers: craft and stationery shops buying wholesale art supplies by the carton to resell
