A4 paper is the everyday copier and printer paper behind almost every office, school and government counter, sold in reams of 500 sheets and boxes of five reams. StationerySupplies.co.za is a free quote service. You fill in one form and we pass your request to independent stationery suppliers and paper distributors near you, who quote you directly. We do not sell, stock or deliver paper ourselves, and there is no fee or obligation to accept a quote. Tell us the weight, quantity and delivery address.

Types of A4 paper and printer paper

Most buyers want plain white copier A4 paper, but suppliers carry a wider range:

  • Standard copier paper: 70, 75 or 80 gsm white bond for everyday printing and photocopying
  • Premium printer paper: brighter, smoother 80 to 100 gsm sheets for reports, proposals and colour laser output
  • Other sizes: A3 for drawings and spreadsheets, A5 for forms and flyers
  • Colour paper: pastel and bright tints for notices, worksheets and coding forms
  • Recycled and FSC-certified paper: for organisations with a sustainability or procurement policy

Card stock of 160 to 300 gsm is usually quoted alongside paper for covers and certificates.

Which gsm is right for you?

Grammage (gsm) is the weight of one square metre of the sheet. 80 gsm is the office standard: opaque enough for double-sided printing and reliable in high-speed copiers. 75 gsm is a little lighter and cheaper per ream, and handles most daily printing. 70 gsm suits schools and bulk internal copies where cost matters more than feel. Heavier stock jams less in some machines but costs more to post. If your printer has a minimum weight, check the manual before switching.

Brightness and smoothness also differ between grades. Brighter, smoother sheets make text crisper and colours livelier, which matters for client documents but much less for internal copies.

Reams, boxes and A4 paper box price

A4 paper is sold by the ream, by the box of five reams and, for large users, by the pallet. Price per ream drops as quantity rises, so a box price is usually better than buying single reams, and a pallet better again. Paper prices move with pulp costs and the exchange rate, so quotes are often valid for a short period only.

Ask whether prices include 15% VAT and delivery. Many suppliers deliver free above a minimum order value, and charge a fee below it. Regular buyers can open a 30-day account; once-off orders are normally paid by EFT before dispatch.

Buying copier A4 paper in bulk

Schools, municipalities and busy offices often buy a term's or a quarter's paper at once. Store boxes flat, off the floor and away from damp walls, since humid paper curls and jams. If you also need toner cartridges or general office stationery, add them to the same request so one supplier can deliver everything together. For very large volumes, see wholesale stationery.

What to include in your request

  • State the size and gsm you need
  • Give the quantity in reams, boxes or pallets
  • Say whether recycled or FSC paper is required
  • Include the delivery address and any loading limits
  • Mention if you want a monthly standing order

A4 Paper for different buyers

  • Offices and small businesses: boxes of 80 gsm copier paper feeding shared printers, copiers and meeting-room handouts every week
  • Schools: 70 or 75 gsm reams for worksheets, tests, newsletters and the staff room photocopier
  • Universities and colleges: bulk A4 for lecture notes, exam scripts, admin printing and student print stations
  • Government and municipalities: pallets of copier paper for forms, registries, reports and printed correspondence across departments
  • Shops and resellers: reams and boxes bought as resale stock for a stationery shop, copy shop or spaza counter
  • Factories and warehouses: A4 paper for dispatch notes, delivery slips, job cards and site office printing
  • Weddings, conferences and events: A4 and A3 sheets for programmes, seating plans, registration lists and conference handouts

Frequently asked questions

Does StationerySupplies.co.za sell A4 paper?
No. StationerySupplies.co.za is a free quote service and does not sell, stock or deliver paper. We send your request to independent local suppliers, who quote you directly with their own prices and terms.
How many sheets are in a ream and a box?
A standard ream holds 500 sheets, and a box usually holds five reams, so 2,500 sheets. Some premium and card products come in smaller packs of 100 or 250, so confirm the pack size on every quote.
Is 75 gsm paper fine for my office printer?
For most laser and inkjet printers, yes. It feeds and prints well for daily documents. Choose 80 gsm if you print double-sided a lot, need less show-through, or your copier manufacturer recommends it.
How quickly can paper be delivered?
Suppliers with local stock often deliver within one to three working days in metro areas. Outlying towns, pallet orders and coloured or speciality paper can take longer. Give your deadline in the request so suppliers can confirm.
